Bonsoir,
We hope that you had a lovely weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather!
Family Tips to best support your child during Blended Learning:
- We want to mention again that we truly appreciate all your support during our online sessions. This is just a friendly reminder to families during our online sessions that you try your best to let your child participate and answer questions on their own. They might be a little shy or not know the answer and that is okay. We want to continue building their learning and online confidence on their own.
- Supporting your child during their school work is important, but please let them do their work on their own. As educators, it’s important that we meet children where they are to help them grow.
- Creating a peaceful learning space for your child during their online sessions. We realize that it’s difficult to always have a quiet learning space, especially if there are small siblings at home. However, your child will be able to focus and learn when they are in a quiet space with no distractions.
Friendly Reminders:
- School Photo - A reminder that photo orders are due by tomorrow (Oct. 26). This year, all orders will be placed online and can be mailed directly to your homes. For instructions on placing orders, please see the handout that was sent home last week in your e-mail.
- Interim Report – If you could please make sure you sign the interim report that was sent to you on Friday, October 23rd. You can take a photo or scan it and then re-send it back to me that would be greatly appreciated. Please let us know if you have any questions.
- Exploring Pumpkins with Mme Anderson – On Tuesday, October 27, we will be exploring pumpkins. If you would like to join in at home, please get a pumpkin for Tuesday morning. Please cut it in half before class begins. If you do not have a pumpkin, no problem at all! Your child can follow along with Mme Anderson.
- Halloween - On Friday, October 30, students are invited to dress up for Halloween (if they wish).
- A reminder to all families and students that the Surrey School District does not permit the wearing of mask, nor any fake/toy weapons or swords etc. while at school and on school grounds.
- Due to COVID regulations, we are not able to allow outside treats to be brought into classes for Halloween this year. Thank you for your understanding.
- Family Tree Projects – starting next week on Monday, November 2nd. We can’t wait to start learning about all our families!
- Face-to-Face Learning extends to Tuesdays, *NEW Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting on Monday, November 2nd.
- Photo Re-takes – November 4th @ Laronde Elementary
- Pro-D Day – No School on Friday November 6th

Bonjour Division RSB1 Families,
We hope you are all well, as we continue to embark in our current new reality. I would like to share something with you that was shared with me recently. Some of the best parenting advice I ever received was: "When it rains, play in the rain." There are ways of making the best out of any situation, this one included. We have a unique opportunity here, as we can make the COVID-19 crisis into a moment that will live vividly in our kids' memories, so that in other times of uncertainty they'll recall fondly how their family pulled together and made the best of things, and they'll be able to do the same.
Check out our newest classroom updates:
Please remember that the work and resources we post on our classroom website is intended to help and support you during this time. Please do not feel that you have to complete all activities. Your child's emotional well-being is more important than the work being completed. Thank you for all your support during these unprecedented times! This new reality isn't easy and you are all our heroes.
UN GROS MERCI!
Sincerely Yours in Kindergarten,
Mme Boudreau & Mme Anderson

Check out our newest classroom updates:
- Division 22 Classroom Website: continue to check our classroom website for any newsletters and updates.
- October Calendar & Vocabulary Game: We posted the October class calendar and the October vocabulary game on our website with the pronunciation videos to help support your child at home.
- « L’Étoile de la semaine » Star of the week: Please see the e-mail that was sent out regarding “Nounours” and our star of the week.
- Class Photo: We want to continue building our class community, especially because we are not all physically together. This is such an important concept and if you could please help us with building our class photo that would be greatly appreciated.
- FreshGrade: Please look out for a FreshGrade e-mail this or next week to connect your child to FreshGrade.
- Choice Board: continue to check the "Choice Board" section on our website on a bi-weekly basis. New activities will be posted on Sunday night or Monday morning for the activities and lessons for the week. After completing the activities, take pictures of your children’s work and eventually you will post them on their FreshGrade.
- Epic: Please check out the Epic e-mail to connect your children. Thank you, Mme Anderson for making this happen. We are fortunate to be able to access Epic, but please remember you can only access books during school hours.
- Jolly Phonics: Each week we are introducing a new French sound with the letter tracing worksheet, which is posted in the “le français” section. All the phonics information is posted in the "Jolly Phonics" section.
- Fine Motor Skills: Please continue to work on your child’s fine motor skills at home which includes cutting, gluing, and tracing (writing). We have posted various worksheets on our website to assist you at home.
Please remember that the work and resources we post on our classroom website is intended to help and support you during this time. Please do not feel that you have to complete all activities. Hello Division RSB1 Families, Given the current situation it looks like we most likely won’t be able to get a class photo all together. Mme Anderson and I know how special those whole class photos are and we want to try to put something together for our students. But we need your help! Could you please take a photograph of your child following the guidelines below and e-mail it back to your us? Please see the image for the instructions -----------------------------------------> If you have any questions, please let us know ❤ |

Dear Parents/ Guardians of Division RSB1, Star of the week Next week, we will be starting with “L’étoile de la semaine”, which is the star of the week. How this works is each child will take turns being star of the week. The star of the week is chosen by me drawing a different name each week from a container. If your child is chosen that week they have the privilege of taking our class friend home and his name is “Nounours” our class bear Unfortunately, due to COVID, “Nounours” will have to physically stay at school but I will provide you with a picture of “Nounours” with your “Star of the week” package. You can either print out the picture of “Nounours” or another option would be that each child can use their own favorite stuffed animal to do their activities with. Part 1 Once the child takes “Nounours” home, I would ask you to take pictures with “Nounours” (or their own stuffed animal) and your child doing various activities. Your child and “Nounours” can do whatever they want together such as cook, play, going to the grocery store, riding their bikes, going to bed, playing with siblings, etc. The opportunities are endless when it comes to spending time with “Nounours”. Once you have taken pictures of your child and “Nounours” together, I ask that you and your child glue two pictures in journal entry form that you will be receiving when you receive “Nounours”. I also ask that your child write a few words of the activity they did together under the picture. Even though your child can’t write yet, you can guide them through the process or you could write the sentence down on another piece of paper and have them copy it down. I will have an example for you to look. Please do not write the sentence for your child or come up with the idea of what your child wants to write. They must come up with their own idea. The words or sentences could be written in French or in English. Part 2 After you are finished writing about “Nounours” in the journal entry, there is a “l’étoile de la semaine” booklet you must help your child fill out. This booklet will help the other students get to know your child. You will receive “Nounours” and the star of the week package on a Wednesday, and it is due the following Wednesday. Every Wednesday the star of the week will be asked to talk about what they did with “Nounours” and go over the booklet with the class. In a normal year, there would be only one “Star of the week”, however, because we might only be together until December we will eventually have two stars of the week. I will be supporting the star of the week online when they present their booklets. *Note: I will provide you with the “star of the week” booklet when it’s your child’s turn. After it is complete, I would ask you to please take a picture of each page and send it to me. They will be extremely proud of their work and proud to have the other students learn and write about them Like I mentioned before this activity is done weekly, therefore your child might not get “Nounours” for a couple of weeks. If you have any questions or concerns about “Nounours” please to not hesitate to contact me. Have fun! Sincerely Yours in Kindergarten, Mme Boudreau & Mme Anderson |

This is a video I found that is a nice way to continue the conversation with your child about why we are currently social distancing, in easily accessible language for young children. Please feel free to share with your child if you feel it's appropriate.

Dear Blended Learning Families,
We are so pleased and excited to be teaching your child this year. We can tell we are going to have a wonderful time together! We are Division RSB1 with 22 students in our class. We enjoyed getting to know your children and parents during our virtual meetings. As you are aware, we are currently connected on Zoom until I receive the username and passwords for TEAMS. As soon as I receive those, I will pass them along. Thank you for your flexibility.
During our time together, we will be focusing on establishing, classroom virtual etiquette, classroom rules, learning cooperative games; familiarize ourselves with the school, and most importantly getting to know each other. Below you will find some reminder items, our weekly schedule, and some of our classroom routines and expectations. Please take the time to go over these with your child. Should you have any questions please let me know. Merci!

HEALTH & SAFETY:
What is the process for differentiating COVID symptoms vs. allergy symptoms?
According to Public Health Guidelines, if the symptoms occur at the same time of year and are typical allergy symptoms for you (often with itchy eyes/runny nose) and relieved with antihistamine or allergy medication, then no specific action is needed. However, if you are uncertain, the best thing to do would be to stay home and use the BC COVID-19 Self- Assessment Tool (https://bc.thrive.health/covid19/en), or call 8-1-1 to assess symptoms. You may also be assessed by your health care provider to determine if testing is required.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES:
Please see my e-mail regarding your child’s school supplies. Merci!
FOOD ALLERGIES IN OUR CLASS:
Nut Allergy: We have a student in our class with a nut allergy. Once again, we need to be extra mindful in our class when packing snacks and lunches. Please and thank you!
INSIDE SHOES:
All students are to have a pair of inside shoes for school. Please see me if you have any questions or concerns regarding inside shoes. If you could also write your child’s name somewhere on his/her shoes, it would be greatly appreciated.
EXTRA CLOTHES:
Please sent extra clothes for your child, please do so as soon as possible. Please try to mark EACH item with your child’s name on it, and not only on the bag if possible.
CLASSROOM ROUTINES
Entering the classroom:
· ONCE THE BELL HAS GONE (please do not have your child come in before the bell), I will greet the entire class outside.
· Backpacks stay at their chair
· Jackets stay at their chair
· Change outside shoes to inside shoes (if possible, please label your child’s shoes as well as his/her clothes or other school items); shoes go UNDER the bench
Exiting the classroom:
· Change to outside shoes; put away inside shoes neatly
· Put on jacket
· Put on backpack
· Line up single file inside the classroom door, and wait for the bell.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
LEARNING TIME
When listening to someone speak (e.g. during lessons, carpet activities, announcements, etc.), students are expected to follow “Donne moi 5” Give/Show me 5 which is as follows:
· If on the floor, sitting “criss-cross apple sauce” (legs crossed & folded; also helps ensure others have enough room too, and do not trip if walking by)
· Ears listening
· Eyes up front (or on the person speaking)
· Mouth is closed (no talking to neighbors)
· Hands/body to self
OUR CLASSROOM
Our classroom rules:
· Be kind to others (e.g. listen, share, say please and thank you, etc.)
· Listen to the teacher
· Keep hands and feet to yourself (we will be learning about personal space)
GOOD BEHAVIOUR
This is a reward system for the whole class. When the class cleans up nicely and in a timely manner, when they are listening well, when they work hard, when everyone works nicely together, etc., marbles are placed by us in a jar. When the jar is full, they get a reward. This could be anything from an extra recess, extra playtime, popcorn and a movie, etc. and will be decided based on our schedule during that time.
WASHROOM TIMES: Below are the following BEST times for your child to use the washroom during the day; please go over these with your child at home (we are doing the same at school). Learning these washroom times is necessary to help maximize the learning time we have in class. The washroom times are consistent with classes in higher grades as well.
· Before or after school
· During any play or free time
· During centers or work being done at their desks
· Snack times, or recess time
Students should avoid (to the best of their ability) going to the washroom during lessons or when the entire class is doing an activity together on the carpet. I do my best to break the day up into small sections so there is often an appropriate time when students are free to use the washroom. However, if they need to go, they should not be afraid to ask…I will never say no!
Right now, only two students are allowed in the washrooms at a time. We will practice at school together!

Hello Parents/ Guardians,
Re: Surrey Blended Learning
Thank you for your patience while we prepare to embark on our Surrey Blended Learning journey here at Laronde Elementary.
This week, we connected with you to introduce ourselves, learn more about your child, outline the health and safety measures, explain the upcoming class schedule and inquire about how to support you for the term. If we have not spoken on the phone yet, I will continue to reach out and we hope to connect with you shortly. We will be using Microsoft Teams as our platform, please refer to the document attached on how to access TEAMS. All Surrey Schools student usernames and passwords will be sent before Monday.
Additionally, we are excited to announce your child will be joining us next week on Wednesday, September 23rd for the afternoon (12:40 – 2:40pm) for face-to-face instruction with their blended learning teacher. Prior to arrival, you are asked to complete a daily health check. Please see the attached image. As well, your child’s teacher will identify where to meet on the school grounds before the afternoon session begins.
As previously indicated, the intent of this transition program is to provide daily contact with a teacher in addition to structured opportunities for face to face contact beginning with one afternoon a week in September and growing to two and three afternoons in October and November. Parents will be key partners in this program and we will rely on your support. In addition, we will be working with you to provide you with resources and tools to support your child while at home. Please see the schedule below for the Blended Learning Program and the Face to Face component. Once started in Surrey Blended, the next opportunity for re-entry to your regular school is January 1st.
*Note: Please read, sign, and return the Video Two Way Conferencing Parent Consent form attached to this e-mail.
Thank you again for your patience. You will be receiving more information from Mme Anderson and I early next week. Looking forward to meeting your child through an online lens very soon!
